PROF JAMES OGLOFF

Distinguished Professor James Ogloff AM is University Distinguished Professor of Forensic Behavioural Science and Executive Dean of the School of Health Sciences at Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia. A clinical and forensic psychologist and lawyer, his work spans psychology, mental health, and the law, with a particular focus on the intersection of mental disorder, substance misuse, and criminal offending. He previously served for more than two decades in senior leadership roles at the Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health (Forensicare), including Executive Director of Psychological Services and Research, and now acts as Strategic Advisor to the Board and CEO. Over a career spanning more than 40 years, he has worked extensively in prisons, forensic hospitals, courts, and community mental health services, with expertise in violence risk assessment, offender rehabilitation, and forensic mental health systems. Earlier in his career, he held academic and leadership appointments in Canada, including University Endowed Professor of Law and Forensic Psychology at Simon Fraser University and Director of Mental Health Services for the British Columbia Corrections Branch. He has published more than 400 scholarly articles and numerous books and reports. His contributions have been widely recognised internationally, including his appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to education and the law as a forensic psychologist.
